Stakeholder Engagement

Avusa’s stakeholder engagement process spans various industry bodies across both media and entertainment where we play an active role in advancing the interests of both the industry and the organisation. These organisations include:

• World Association of Newspapers (WAN)
• Print Media South Africa (PMSA)
• Newspaper Association of South Africa
• Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa (MPSA)
• Southern African Federation Against Copyright Theft (SAFACT)
• National Organisation for Reproduction Rights in Music in Southern Africa (NORRMSA)
• Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA)
• South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA)
• Publishing Association of South Africa (PASA)
• South African Booksellers Association
• International Map Trade Association (IMTA).

The executive directors and chairman regularly engage formally and informally with the investor community. Key shareholders, institutional shareholders and analysts are regularly kept appraised of the group’s performance through results presentations made by the executive directors and supported by the chairman. Shareholders also receive communication regarding financial results and timely notification about the annual general meeting of the company.

Avusa engages with the media by publishing financial results in the press and direct interviews with the group chief executive officer at appropriate times. The Avusa website is regularly updated with financial information, as well as other pertinent company information. We are mindful that while we have an extensive external stakeholder base, our internal stakeholders, the Avusa staff, are just as critical in advancing the company’s interests and achieving our goals. Staff are kept informed of key events and updates through Avusa Billboard, an e-mail mechanism set up specifically to send key messages. Periodic newsletters (Avusa News) are distributed to all staff members to keep them abreast on key achievements and activities in the various businesses.

This enables staff to develop a broader view and understanding of the group. All key announcements are also uploaded onto the Avusa intranet (Avusanet). The intranet now takes suggestions from staff via an electronic suggestion box, which is directly accessible by the group chief executive officer and staff are encouraged to use this facility.
